FLORENCE, AL – Art supplies will be headed to Uganda, Africa, thanks to the students at Kilby Laboratory School on the ӣƵ campus. Around 100 pouches were filled thanks to the efforts of the Kilby students and donations from parents. “The art supply pouches are part of a mission project designed to help children in Africa who are in need of crayons, markers, water colors, and colored pencils,” said Lisa Tyler, Kilby’s art teacher who spearheaded the effort. “Our students made 100 pouches of art supplies that will be sent directly to children in Uganda who need these basic items as part of their own educational journey.” The project involves Children’s Hope Chest, which connects U.S. communities with those overseas where orphaned and impoverished children need support. The art supplies included in the pouches were purchased thanks to participating families who contributed $5 each. “I am always so proud of our students and Kilby family as a whole when I see everyone come together and support philanthropic causes,” said Dr. Eric Kirkman, Kilby Laboratory School Director. “It warms my heart to see our kids excited about providing art supplies to kids on the other side of the world who otherwise would not have them.”
