Founders' Day

The 樱花视频, originally known as LaGrange College in nearby Leighton, Alabama, opened its doors to students Jan. 11, 1830. While the name and location may have changed in the intervening 190 years, the goal of educating students has remained the same.

Light The Fountain

Harrison Fountain, the most iconic symbol of the generosity of UNA alumna Laura M. Harrison, has become a signature piece on UNA’s already gorgeous campus. Each year, when the fountain is turned on, students and visitors alike know that warmer weather is on the way. Miss UNA

The Miss UNA Scholarship Competition is a prestigious event that showcases the talents, intelligence, and community involvement of UNA's outstanding women. Serving as a preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants, it offers participants scholarship opportunities and a platform to advocate for meaningful causes. The winner represents UNA at various events, embodying the university's values and commitment to excellence.

Paint the Paws

"Paint the Paws" is a beloved tradition where students refresh the iconic purple and white lion paw prints that lead from downtown Florence to the UNA campus. Using campus-approved stencils, students apply reflective paint to ensure the paw prints remain vibrant and visible. This activity not only beautifies the campus but also fosters a sense of pride and unity among the student body.

Pride Rock

Established in 1994 following UNA's first NCAA Division II Football National Championship, Pride Rock is a 60-pound granite stone featuring the paw print of the university's live lion mascot. Inspired by the film "The Lion King," Pride Rock symbolizes strength, tradition, and the legacy of UNA football. Before each home game, players touch Pride Rock as a ritual to honor past teams and inspire excellence on the field.

Spring Concert

Hosted annually by the University Program Council, the Spring Concert is one of UNA's most anticipated events, bringing renowned artists to perform for students and the community. In 2025, the concert featured Waka Flocka Flame, with support from Big Yavo and Eli Hannon & Co, energizing the crowd at the CB&S Bank Arena. This event exemplifies UNA's commitment to providing vibrant campus life experiences.

Step Sing

Step Sing is a dynamic musical competition held every February, where student groups perform themed routines combining singing, choreography, and storytelling. This tradition fosters creativity, collaboration, and school spirit, culminating in performances that captivate audiences and celebrate the diverse talents within the UNA community.

The Big Deal

In 2003, The Big Deal was established as a premier event to welcome students to campus each fall. Originally the centerpiece of Welcome Week, The Big Deal now headlines Mane Month, continuing its tradition of connecting students with campus organizations, departments, and local businesses. With activities, giveaways, and entertainment, the event remains a staple in UNA’s efforts to ensure a strong start to the academic year. UNA Awards Gala

In 2008, the University Awards Gala was established to recognize and honor the success of students, faculty, and staff. The event is sponsored by the Division of Academic Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Student Government Association. Victory Flame

The Victory Flame stands as a symbol of triumph and unity at UNA. Originally lit in front of the old bookstore, it was extinguished during campus renovations but was reinstated in 1995 through a campaign led by the National Alumni Association. Now located in a more central part of campus, the flame is ignited to commemorate significant victories and events, serving as a beacon of pride and motivation for students and athletes alike.
